    • These books are easy to revise and memorize because different colors of text and tables are used in them.
    • These books are very authentic because the information contained in them is provided by the government itself.
    • They are designed to understand any concept from basic to advanced levels.

Let’s Know the Best Way to Read NCERT for UPSC

    Where to Start

Science, History, and Geography start with class 6 or 7, for Polity and Economy start with NCERT from class 9. You can use a general book-reading method; this will awaken your interest in the subject.

In the first round, you just clear the basics and keep on highlighting the important points; you will get the benefit of this in revision.

In the UPSC 2021 result, you must have read the strategies of many toppers and one thing that will also be common among them is to read NCERT books for basics. So always keep in mind reading NCERT will really build and improve your conceptual approach towards any subject.

    Make Notes While Reading

If you have read the book completely once then now you should prepare for the 2nd round. You also have to make notes while reading the book for the second time, this time you don’t have to skip anything. Now you have to make your notes too. The best way for this is to keep the print-out of the UPSC Syllabus with you, read the syllabus of the subject for which you are studying NCERT thoroughly, and then start making notes.

While making notes, the second most important thing you have to keep in mind is to analyze UPSC papers of the last 5 years. Keep making detailed notes of the topic on which questions are asked more. In this digital era, you can make digitized notes as well.

    Subject Wise vs Class Wise

For UPSC preparation, it would be better to read NCERT subject-wise. When you study any one subject from basic to advanced level, many of your concepts will be cleared automatically. You just have to keep in mind that when you read NCERT, do not prefer any other books along with it.

Some aspirants may read this class wise but reading subject-wise will be more beneficial for you. If you have already read NCERT Books and only want to read for revision then you can go for Class Wise.

Not necessary to read the whole book

Yes and No, for some subjects you may find it beneficial to read the entire NCERT book, but some may waste your time. For big subjects like History and Geography, you can read the entire book, whereas for subjects like Science and Technology, if you read according to the UPSC syllabus, you can save a lot of time.

    Which NCERT Edition is Good

Many aspirants remain in doubt about which edition of NCERT to study. In the suggestions given by the UPSC Toppers, it is considered good to read the old edition of NCERT for History. If you get an NCERT book from 2006 or earlier, then you can prefer it. You may read the latest edition of NCERT for Geography.

Apart from this, you can also read the notes of Physics Wallah which are prepared to keep in mind all the facts of the NCERT book.
